Phares announces re-election bid

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Bob Phares of North Platte, current chairman of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, has indicated his intention to file for re-election to represent District 7.
In announcing his intention to officially file later this week, Phares said, "It has been a privilege to represent this part of Nebraska on the Board of Regents. We have a great University system, 5 strong campuses, a great new leader in President Hank Bounds, and I want to help us continue to move forward. I believe my past experience on the board, which includes over 6 years on the Executive Committee, plus leadership of both the Business Affairs and the Audit and Compliance committees, as well as my two terms as board chair, positions me well to do just that".
Phares was first appointed to the board in August of 2006, subsequently elected that November for the unexpired term in District 7, and then re-elected in 2010. District 7 comprises 38 counties in western Nebraska.
Phares added that he wanted to remain focused on improving efficiencies within the University system so that the system could deliver quality education at affordable costs to students. "I also want to remain committed to our land grant mission of teaching, research and extension and support of agriculture, our number one economic engine for this state", Phares said.
