SELDEN, Kan. -- Gerald "Jerry" Childs, 75, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Selden, died Thursday (July 30, 2015), at Olathe.

He was born July 26, 1940, in Rexford, Kansas, to Leslie and Birdie (Ogier) Childs. He graduated from Selden Rural High School in 1959 and from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, in 1963.

He was a secondary school teacher and coach. He lived in Jennings, Downs, Wichita, Hutchinson, Topeka and Olathe, Kansas.

He married Carlene McGuire on May 31, 1967.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Birdie Ogier Childs; in-laws, Bill and Velma McGuire; brother and sister-in-law, Cleon and Arlene Childs; sister, Evelyn Childs; and brothers-in-law, Cliff Fiala and Ron McGuire.

Survivors include his wife, Carline Childs of Olathe; children, Leslie (Vito) Giarraputo of Overland Park and Laurie (Wayne) Turner of Colby; sisters, Beverly (Harold) Maris of Wauneta, Nebraska, and Clois Fiala of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother-in-law, Don McGuire of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Marlene Heineman of Dallas, Texas; and three grandchlddren.

Services are Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, 11 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden. Interment is at Rexford Cemetery in Rexford, Kansas.

Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday after 8 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Golden Plains Gerald Childs Scholarship Fund.
