McCook senior wins Best of Show honors of McCook Art Guild
McCOOK, Neb. -- McCook High School senior Rebekah Huff won Best of Show honors during the McCook Art Guild Student Art Show, Saturday afternoon, at the Norris Avenue gallery. Huff was awarded a $150 cash prize, a medal and a guild membership for her watercolor painting titled "All the Colors" and recognition of her artistic talent didn't stop there. Huff also sold one of her pencil drawings on display at the gallery to an attendee at the reception for the art show.
Two other McCook High School student also won honors in the grades 10-12 division of the art show. Hannah Goodenberger won first place and an honorable mention, while Emma Larington won an honorable mention.
Ashlee Morosic of Indianola won second place and Joclyn Pierce of Trenton won third place in the senior division.
Kathy Cleveland of Stratton won three honorable mention awards to round out the top place finishers in the grades 10-12 division.
The junior division, grades 7-9, was dominated by area youth from outside of McCook. Anna Burge of Almena, Kansas, won first place, third place and two honorable mention awards. Ashley Karnopp of Norton, Kansas, won second place and an honorable mention award for a pencil drawing and an oil painting she entered in the contest.
Tucker Gosslin of Norton and Kaitlynne Ellis of Bartley, Nebraska, rounded out the top place winners in the junior division with honorable mention honors.
First place winners in each division won $100 and a McCook Art Guild membership, with second and third place winners each awarded $75 and $50 cash prizes, respectively.
Honorable mention winners were awarded a $5 cash prize.
The Student Art Show will be on display at the McCook Arts Center on Norris Avenue through next Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.
