Sex offender convicted on third attempted registration violation

McCOOK, Neb. -- A convicted rapist accepted what is at least his third plea agreement in Red Willow County since the fall of 2010, each reducing felony sex offender registration violations to misdemeanor offenses. The offender, 44-year-old Danny Rex Wise of 39145 County Road 718 in McCook, was subsequently sentenced last week in Red Willow County District Court to 90 days in county jail on the most recent offense in addition to a consecutive 180 days in jail for possession of methamphetamine.
Wise was originally charged with a Class IV felony offense for violating the sex offender registration act by furnishing false information to arresting officers and failing to report a change of residence in a timely manner, in addition to a second Class IV felony for possession of methamphetamine.
He accepted a plea agreement in August reducing the felony sex offender violation to a Class I misdemeanor attempted version and also admitting guilt to the felony for possession of meth.
The sex offender violation stemmed from Wise reporting his residence as a Bartley address on Oct. 30, 2013, and subsequently taking up residence at the 606 E. Seventh Street residence of 43-year-old Darcie Jameson on Dec. 1, 2013. Red Willow County Sheriff's Deputies investigating a tip cited Wise on Jan. 10, 2014.
Wise's sex offender registration requirement stems from his conviction of the 1996 rape of a 13-year-old girl, in which he served 11 years at the Arkansas Department of Corrections, discharged in 2007.
Wise claimed to be an Indianola resident in September 2010 when he accepted the first plea agreement offered by Red Willow County Attorney Paul Wood reducing a Class IV felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender to a Class I misdemeanor for attempted failure to register.
He was subsequently sentenced to 60 days in jail in January 2011.
Wise accepted a second plea agreement in September 2012, similarly reducing a Class IV felony sex offender registration violation to a Class I misdemeanor attempted version, before accepting his most recent plea agreement in August 2014.
