Third member of D&S Hardware burglary team sentenced

McCOOK, Neb. -- A McCook man received prison time last week for his role in the 2012 burglary of D&S Hardware. 37-year-old Stacy A. Talbot was sentenced to 6-8 years in state prison after being convicted on a Class 3 felony burglary offense stemming from the crime.

Talbot's Red Willow County sentencing was ordered to be served concurrently with prison time he received in February, stemming from unrelated Lincoln County and Lancaster County criminal cases.

Talbot was sentenced to 20-60 months in Lancaster County related to merchandise valued between $500 and $1,500 he stole from a Lancaster County Walmart. He was sentenced to 18-36 months in Lincoln County stemming from a 42" TV he stole from Alco, according to court documents.

Talbot is the third man to face sentencing related to the McCook hardware store burglary, which included thieves taking a 2500 lb. safe before sending a forklift crashing into a fuel can locker. The forklift was discovered running the following morning, amidst the scattered fuel cans and atop a sizable fuel spill, leaving management grateful a fire didn't break out.

Talbot's accomplices, 30-year-old Cody L. Jolliffe and 26-year-old Jesse L. Morrison, were also convicted of Class 3 felony burglary and sentenced to state prison time earlier this year.

Jolliffe was sentenced to 5-7 years for his role and Morrison received 18-36 months.

The burglary occurred during the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, 2012. Multiple doors were damaged during the break-in and representatives at D&S Hardware said they were relieved a fire didn't result and add to the already extensive repair bill the burglary had created.

The safe was later recovered outside of city limits, north of McCook on West Third Street.

Other activity in Red Willow County District Court, Aug. 27, 2014:

* A plea agreement was reached with 44-year-old Danny R. Wise of 606 E. Seventh Street admitting guilt to felony possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor offense for failing to follow sex offender registration requirements. Wise was originally facing felony offenses on both counts and his plea agreement reduced the sex offender violation to a Class I misdemeanor version while also admitting guilt to the Class IV felony offense for possession of methamphetamine.

Wise was subsequently scheduled for sentencing in Red Willow County District Court at 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 6, 2014.
