Tire cleanup next week

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The City of McCook is hosting a week long regional tire cleanup at the McCook Transfer Station beginning Monday. Tires from several Southwest Nebraska counties will be accepted, including Red Willow, Dundy, Hitchcock, Furnas, Chase, Hayes and Frontier counties.

The event is scheduled for November 4-8, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday November 9, 8 a.m, to noon.

A maximum of 500 tons received has been allowed for the event. Individuals with more than 100 tires are asked to call the McCook Transfer Station before participating.

Tires will be received on a first come, first served basis and must be brought to the transfer station without rims.

The event is being funded in part by a grant through the Scrap Tire Cleanup Grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
