LINCOLN, Nebraska -- The First Lady had a limited number of first-come-first-serve Halloween treat bags which include, pencils, crayons and snacks for the children, and Snickers had dog treats for fellow animals in costumes. Snickers was dressed as Tigger.

From A. A. Milne's children's book The House at Pooh Corner, Tigger is a fictional tiger character known for his energy and enthusiasm.

The children's literature reference is appropriate for the interests of the first lady in promoting literacy. As a retired 30-year school teacher and principle, the first lady is a strong advocate on behalf of childhood literacy, working with Reading Is Fundamental, the nation's oldest and largest children's literacy organization, and regularly reading with school children throughout Nebraska.
