Safety on the farm
Larry Pollmann of Titan Machinery, Justin Harris of Greenturf Lawncare, and Trooper Jeff Van Stelton of the Nebraska State Patrol are among presenters at the annual "Farm Safety Day" hosted by the McCook, Nebraska, High School FFA Chapter Friday in the Kiplinger Arena on the Red Willow County fairgrounds. Pollmann told kids about the dangers of power take-offs; Harris explained roll-over bars that can save an operator from being crushed. Van Stelton's pickup roll-over simulator tossed its driver -- who was not wearing his seat belt -- directly into the path of the rolling pickup. A pretty little strawberry-blond asked Van Stelton, "What does buckling up have to do with farm safety?" Van Stelton told her, "Even on the farm, and in the pasture, you should wear your seat belt."
