Doris I. Fletcher

CAMRIDGE, Nebraska -- Doris I. Fletcher, age 91, of Cambridge, Nebraska, died at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on Aug.13, 2013.

She was born on July 24, 1922, at Cambridge to Herman and Sophia (Broeker) ten Bensel. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940 and attended McCook College, where she received a degree and began teaching. She taught at the Sunshine one-room country school, that now sits in McKinley Park in Cambridge, for a short time at Palisade.

Doris was united in marriage to Donald Fletcher on June 29, 1947, in Cambridge. Doris loved to garden and especially loved to grow flowers.

She was employed by TRW in McCook. She drove a school bus for the Hayes Center Schools. Doris was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Cambridge.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 1998; sisters, Louise ten Bensel and Erma and husband, Dewey Bless; brothers, Herman Jr. and Erwin ten Bensel; son, Gene Fletcher and a grandson, Heath Fletcher.

Doris is survived by her three daughters, Jolene and husband, R. G. Brown of Cambridge, Donna and husband, Scott Kentfield of Norton, Kansas and Chris McAfoos of Parks, Nebraska; sons, Herman Ray and wife, Rebecca Fletcher of Paxton; Jim Fletcher and Kim Schulze of Gibbon, Nebraska; 21 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; along with special family friend Greg and Denise Rassmussen of Cozad. Nebraska.

Funeral services will be at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Doris's name to the McKinley Park flower garden for a memorial bench in Cambridge.
