Hillcrest's Night on the Hill raises $15,895

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation celebrated the 10th Anniversary of their annual fundraising event, "Night On The Hill," on Sunday, Oct. 14, raising $15,895.

Guests were entertained by musician, Sherman Wiehe, better known as "Shermie At The Piano" from North Platte, Nebraska.

Abby Soncksen, daughter of Mike and Lynn Soncksen, and an eighth grade student at Hayes Center Public Schools, opened the evening playing background music on the piano.

Tantalizing appetizers for the event were prepared under the direction of Hillcrest's Dietary Director, Liana Rich, with the delightful desserts prepared by Shellie Winder of Purple Moon Cookery.

The evening was highlighted by a few heartfelt words from Darr Nickerson, who is the most recent recipient of the Hillcrest Homegrown scholarship funds.

Committee members presented 24 amazing silent auction packages, a wine grab bag and a chance to win a Breckenridge, Colorado, getaway for four days and three nights. The trip was sponsored by High Plains Radio and won by Cheri Beckenhauer of McCook

Event sponsorships along with these additional evening activities helped the Foundation raise $15,895. The proceeds are used to fund the Hillcrest Homegrown scholarship program.

Silent Auction packages were purchased by: Carol Samway, Linda Maiden, Tim and Kristi Daum, Kent Craw, Phil and Janice Bamesberger, Jim and Donna Hall, Don and Alice Harpst, Mark and Linda Graff, Delton and Vicky Young, Jim and Jamie Ulrich, Roland and Jeannette Miller, Leslie Stramel, Kelvin and Leigh Ann Miller, Dennis and Cora Berry.

Two diligent and dedicated committees worked to make the evening a success.

The Auction Committee included: Kristi Daum, Lynn Driml-Pinkal, Linda Graff, Pam Harsh, Linda Maiden, Sherri Stang, and Vicky Young.

The Steering Committee included: Virginia Brown, Renee Fritz, Pam Harsh, Dixie Lorentz, Flora Lundberg, Colinda Nappa, Tamra Neel and Ethyl Siegfried.

Special assistance was provided by McCook students: Brenleigh Daum, Drew Daum, Gavin Harsh, Jana Harris, Bailey Kool, JoAnn Neel and James Neel. Bob Bucknell and Carmine Nappa, Hillcrest Maintenance Department, and Chris Neel provided technical support and assistance in a multitude of ways.

Hillcrest Nursing Home Foundation Board members include: Jerry Beckenhauer, president, Tor Olson, vice president, Janice Bamesberger, secretary treasurer, Jack Clark, Kent Craw, Dixie Lorentz, Jeannette Miller, Gary Wiemers, Colinda Nappa, Ex Officio, and Pete Graff, Board Emeritus.

Acknowledging the support of the community at large and the guests in attendance, Foundation Board President, Jerry Beckenhauer, quoted Sir James M. Barne who once said, "Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." Beckenhauer stated, "I fully believe that the sun will be shining on each and every one of you in all your days ahead!"
