Cooking 101

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Eight young people enrolled in Cooking 101 School in Cambridge. The school started on Sept. 25 and students met three times.

The first class taught the young chefs how to measure dry and liquid ingredents as they made muffins and coffee cakes.

On Oct. 2, the Cooking 101 Class went grocery shopping and learned how to compare prices, select pasta and produce, and purchase hamburger.

The third and final class of the Cooking 101 School was Oct. 9, at the Community Building in Cambridge. The eight chefs prepared the evening meal for their families. Their families enjoyed a meal of baked steak, red roasted potatoes, crock pot corn, and brownie sundaes.

In the final class, students learned how to brown steak, cut up potatoes, and follow recipes. The chefs also learned how to set a formal table.

Cooking 101 School was sponsored and taught by UNL Extension in Furnas County and helper, Vickie Jones of Cambridge.
