McCOOK, Nebraska -- The Good Earth Garden Club met Aug. 15 for a tour of community gardens in and out of the city.

The first stop was a beautiful "Miniature house and garden" of Maureen Wood. Maureen is just getting her garden established and the members were impressed with all she accomplished in one year.

The second "In the Mood" garden stop was at Tammy and Rex Solomon's home. The couple have many corners and many settings, such as Japanese, chocolate and even a frog area. They also have a great Meditarrean Courtyard for their resting mood.

The club members then traveled on to Robert and Gloriann Spencer's home. The impressive farm home and yard that overlooks the Republican River Valley was an impressive "Country Living Garden"

We then traveled back to McCook for a "Lots of Pots" garden of David and Julie Gummere. The couple has a lovely shade garden with lots of antiques mixed in with settings. Julie has a great eye for mixing different color and textures of plants in all her pot arrangements.

The final stop was "Ending with Enchanted Evening" garden at Hugh and Clarice Kenny's home. Clarice makes great use of unusual yard ornaments. All her "Ladies" make a very attractive and stunning garden. Tammy, Clarice and Maureen served lunch.

The garden club wishes to thank everyone for letting us visit all their yard and gardens.

  • Perhaps this group can help the corner of Norris and B to look nice and fresh again. I know it is hot, but seems like no one tried to keep it updated.
