OMAHA, Nebraska -- Katherine Preston, a senior at Millard West High School in Omaha, Nebraska, is one of nine students of more than 1,600 to be named to the 2012 All Metro Academic First Team.

Students qualify for this honor by being one of the two highest ranking students in the class and/or by scoring top scores on the ACT and SAT. Judging panels from the region select the students based on test scores, GPA and class rank and involvement in academic competitions and activities, level of participation in school programs and clubs and school leadership roles, the rigor of their senior schedule and amount of AP classes. Judges do not know the gender, name or school of the student.

Katherine is one of eight students in Nebraska to score a 36 on her ACT and one 94 in the state to be a National Merit Finalist. She was on of the students to be honored at her school for her leadership, academic achievement and community service.

Katherine is the daughter of Tom and Laura Preston of Omaha, the granddaughter of Bob and Jan Hein of McCoo, Jan Preston of Lincoln and the late Ron Preston. She is the great granddaughter of Edna Ficken of McCook.
