College approves $52 million budget
NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- The Mid Plains Community College board of governors approved a $52 million budget that calls for $10.2 million in local property taxes.
That money will be raised on 7.5949 cents per $100 of assessed value, compared to 7.5818 cents last year.
The budget calls for an overall total increase in property taxes of $613,244 for the general fund, capital fund and ADA/hazmat funds.
Board chairwoman Elizabeth Benjamin called on the board to provide "an efficient education" without imposing an "undue financial burden."
"This is the fourth year that the total college tax levy will remain at 8.7994 cents per $100 of valuation," said Dr. Michael Chipps, president of MPCC.
Speaking during the open forum, Eric Seacrest of North Platte said that while the college was once in deep trouble, it is now in control of its accreditation, learning opportunities, excellent signage and the college is in excellent condition.
Benjamin also asked the board to consider a new policy regarding contracting for professional services.
