Two Bison players, coach in Cambridge All-Star Basketball Games

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Some of the top high school basketball talent in southwest Nebraska will be on display Friday, May 27, at the Cambridge High School gym.

The 27th annual Cambridge Community School Organization (CSO) All-Star Basketball Games will be held Friday night. The girls contest is set to open at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at approximately 8 p.m.

Admission prices will be $5 for each adult, and $4 for each student. Proceeds from the annual all-star contests will be used to support various Cambridge CSO activities throughout the school year.

Players must be 2011 high school graduates to be eligible to participate in Friday's contests. A CSO all-star games committee selects the coaching staffs for the four teams. Those coaches then select players nominated by their respective high school head coaches.

Several coaches and players from schools in the Gazette coverage area will participate in the all-star classic.

Two former McCook standouts are on the West rosters. Connor Larson will play for the West boys and Gretchen Sehnert will be on the West girls squad.

McCook head girls basketball coach Jeff Ellis will head the West All-Star girls. Ellis will be assisted by Matt Cox of Hayes Center.

Darren Tobey of Southern Valley will head the East girls squad. Chris Watt of Southwest will be an assistant on the East boys squad, while Trent Florom of Medicine Valley will assist on the West boys team.

Wauneta-Palisade standouts

The West boys team will likely try to push the tempo, with Larson and three standouts from Class D-2 state tournament runner-up Wauneta-Palisade on the roster. The W-P players include Chris Bartels, Ricky Martin and Drew Harris. Clive Brown of Hitchcock County, Jordan Faimon of Dundy County-Stratton, Tanner Stromberger of Chase County and Marty Warneke of Medicine Valley are also on the West boys roster.

The East boys feature Arapahoe's TJ Enchenberger and Garth Walbridge, Justin Malleck of Southwest and Cole Taylor of Cambridge.

Arapahoe girls trio on East team

Arapahoe has three representatives on the East girls roster, including Michele Borden, Makayla Wendland and Cayla Polston. Cambridge also has Halee Long and Taylor Dauwen on the East girls roster, along with Adie Nielsen of Eustis-Farnam and Paige Quinn of Southern Valley.

The West girls feature Sehnert plus a pair of DCS standouts in Brittany Shillington and Amanda Calvert, Lexee Reichert of Chase County, Adrianne LiaKos, Bethany Reiner of Wauneta-Palisade, plus the Hayes Center duo of Molly Cox and Tierney Tyan.
