Welcome home Bison alumni!

Friday, July 2, 2010

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Motels, camping spots and spare bedrooms are full as McCook High School Alumni begin converging on their hometown for the Bison 2010 all-class reunion.

Combined with the Independence Day celebration, the event promises to be one of the most monumental in memory.

Kicking off with a special McCook National Bank Hot Summer Nights concert in Norris Park at 7 p.m. today, the event continues with the dedication of statues honoring MHS graduate Sen. Ben Nelson and his parents at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, a salute to veterans in Norris Park at 2 p.m. Sunday, fireworks display at dusk Sunday evening and more activities for specific classes and Fourth of July celebrations too numerous to mention.

A car show and street dance downtown Saturday night and community activities throughout Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas ensure that there will be plenty for people to do, no matter their interests.

McCook residents and businesses are putting their best foot forward to welcome home old friends, and authorities are urging revelers to enjoy themselves responsibly.

  • Way to support your community Dick! I gotta tell you, I was back to my good ole home town for the class reunion and all the festivities and WOW, what a great time I had. I actually hated the thought of going back home! I seen classmates and friends that I haven't seen for YEARS. The art exhibit was great and the Saturday night car show was a hit too. I think it would be kind of nice to see this done every five years. And if Dick is not a McCook Bison alumni, he could plan his vacation every five years so that we don't have to put up with his negativeism. Thanks McCook!

  • Kudos to the citizens of McCook who put so much effort into making Bison 2010 such an outstanding success. From the still friendly, if no longer as familiar faces at the Jr. High registration table to the Sunday night fireworks, and everything in between, it was a truly enjoyable event. Those of us who now make our homes elsewhere were reminded of why we recall our hometown with such fondness.
