RUIDOSO Downs, N.M. -- Veronica A. Orin, 86, of Ruidoso Downs, N.M., died Friday, July 17, 2009, in Alamogordo, N.M.

Mrs. Orin was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Herndon to Henry Paul and Elizabeth Barbara (Versh) Niemeth. She grew up in Herndon and graduated from Herndon High School. Following graduation she moved to Denver, Colo., where she was a chef for many years. In 1977, she moved from Winter Park, Colo., to Ruidoso Downs, where she was a teller at the racetrack for 27 years.

Survivors include her three daughters, Mary Lou Gray and Barbara Clair of Tularosa, N.M., and Judy Miller of Ruidoso Downs; one special step-son, Charles Orin and his family; eight grandchildren, Charles Gray of Shawnee, Okla., Brenda Markulik of Tularosa, Kenneth Gray and his wife, Brenda of Alamogordo, Becky Gray of Odessa, Texas, Brian Trapple and his wife, Tanya of Ruidoso Downs and Jayla McDermott and her husband, Ryan of Trophy Club, Texas; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Francis J. Niemeth of Las Cruces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles A. "Jack" Orin on May 22, 1989; six brothers; two sisters; a grandson, Michael Gray; and a son-in-law, Edwin Miller.

Rosary will be recited today at 7:30 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour as celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
