McCook Legion baseball teams pound Cozad
COZAD -- The McCook American Legion Seniors blasted Cozad 12-0 and the Juniors won 14-3 Thursday night at Cozad.
The Juniors extended their winning streak to five games.
Chris Conroy threw a complete game for the Juniors with eight strikeouts. Justin Terry continued his hot streak by hitting his second home run of the year on the first pitch he saw.
"I was happy once again with our offense, the kids came out swinging the bats hard and putting up 14 runs which brings our total to 40 runs scored in the last three games," said Juniors coach Shadd Cochran. "Everyone in the lineup 1-9 is hitting the ball well and scoring runs. I couldn't ask for better kids, after the long roadtrip to Broken Bow I was a little worried we would be tired the next day, but they proved me wrong by showing up and playing a complete game.
"Our defense has really come around with Ryan Powell at shortstop leading the way. He is as solid defensively as you can ask for in this age group, when you have a kid that you know anytime a ball is hit his way he will get a glove on it and make a play it takes alot of the stress off the coaching staff. I feel like the rest of the kids feed off his intensity and it makes the whole team better in all phases."
The Seniors play at North Platte tonight, Gothenburg Saturday and Holdrege Tuesday before hosting Ogallala Wednesday.
