Brittany Jeffers

The daughter of a McCook businessman is Nebraska's newest "Miss Nebraska."

Brittany Jeffers of Lincoln was crowned "Miss Nebraska" during the state pageant June 6 in North Platte.

Brittany is the daughter of Lisa and Scott Jeffers of Ogallala. Scott commutes to McCook where he is an agent for Shelter Insurance.

He is justifiably proud of his only daughter. "She's a terrific young woman. She'll represent Nebraska well," he said.

Brittany competed as "Miss Omaha" and performed a dance as her talent. Her platform is, "Self Esteem: Promoting A Generation of Change."

Brittany is a reporter for the ABC affiliate, KLKN-TV, in Lincoln, having graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2008 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Jeff said Brittany will continue to work part-time during her reign as Miss Nebraska.

Brittany has two brothers, Christopher, who will be a sophomore this fall at UNL, and John, who will be a sophomore at Ogallala High School.

Brittany will compete for the title of "Miss America 2010" in Las Vegas in January.

  • Steffanie, can't you give 'em a break! Jeff was intended to be Jeffers (meaning Scott - her dad). Get a clue and find yourself something more meaningful to do with your life instead of criticizing everyone.

Scott Jeffers is a good businessman and leader in this community and has a beautiful daughter representing young woman in this generation. GO FOR IT BRITTANY!!!!

  • Brittany.. You are a beautiful young woman.. Way to go. MY daughter competes in pateants and would like to someday go for Miss Nebraska but she is also put down because she does it. You father is more than willing to sponsor my daughter. I just tell her that she is special to believe in herself and she can be anything that she wants to be if she sets her mind to it and that I am always there for her. WAY TO GO BRITTANY

  • I don't think Stephanie even begins to understand what you are saying Rural Citizen or possibly she didn't read the entire story hmmmm

Good Luck Brittany..the platform you will be using is perfect as so many younger women seem to have lost all of their self-esteem and don't know how to get it back...with any luck you will be able to reach out to hundreds of those women...

  • Misty.. You hit the nail right on the head. Self Esteem. MY daughter use to be so shy and have a very low self esteem of herself. Today she is a beautiful young lady who is not afraid of anythingbecause of the pageants. I can honestly say I would not be able to stand in front of 1000 people and speak. She is active in the community does volunteer work will help anyone she can. Thank to people like your Dad the and the rest of McCook my daughter is fullfilling her dream of one day being Miss Nebraska. I can honestly say and am proud to say that I am A CITIZEN OF MCCOOK AND CALL MCCOOK MY HOME......

  • WHAT A WASTE OF SPACE,TIME AND LIFE!!!!!GIRL...GET A CLUE... BEING THE PRETTIEST GIRL IN TOWN DOSNT GET YOU ANY THING OF REAL SUBSTANCE. JUST LOOK AT WHAT FARRA FAUCE WENT THROUGH. What did being the prettyst girl in the nation get her... a grusom death......Yeah a pretty face and big boobs gets you lotts of things but an educacion will take you so much farther. And if you get a real education.... in the end you will have SELF RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!! Sex appeal will only get you through(at best) your early 30's...then you are out of luck.

Stop catering to the male bull...oney that created this nonsense and look out for your self.

I hope that women of stength can find a way to put an end to this kind of exploitation and find a way to promote A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN in a way that dosnt daminish their true value.

From some one who has been there and done that

    PEACE

  • KayGee, you must have some issues. It just so happens that Brittany has finished her education and has a wonderful career. She is in no way catering to the male bull as you say. She is fulfilling a dream and being a role model to all girls - education, career and doing something meaningful. It sounds like you've gotten bit hard and has some self esteem issues yourself. Go for it Brittany and good luck!!! You are beautiful, powerful and accomplished. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

  • Could it be that today's women equate self-esteem with personal appearance. Only the pretty women can have self-esteem.

You want self-esteem, go out and accomplish something today, not for yourself, but for some one else. Be the light in someones otherwise dark life.

  • Thank you to those who have posted nice comments about Brittany, and to those who have not been so nice I would just like to offer you the opportunity to get to know your Miss Nebraska before you post your next comments. Take a look at her 6 year journey of balancing college, family, community service, work, internships and yes the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Pageant. All the young, inteligent, talented, kind young women who participate in this state and throughout this country have many things in common, not the least of which is dedication to a community service platform. They are all amazing young women with a passion for service. Through this service they have raised millions of dollars for Childrens miracle network and countless other organizations around the country. Each girl has impacted many lives in positive ways and each strives to do more every day, while balancing the before mentioned schedules. The Miss America organization is the largest financial scholarship organization for women in this country! These women are not born with silver spoons, they work hard for others and in some cases receive a scholarship benefit to assist with education expenses. I encourage you to check out WWW.MISSNEBRASKA.ORG research these women and what they stand for and don't judge them without an honest effort to know them first. I do hope that you get to know Brittany, she is a wonderful young lady and is trying, with all of your help, to do good things for Nebraska.

    Miss Nebraskas Dad.

p.s. CPB, would being selected by the Miss America Organization and the Miss Nebraska organization two years in a row as the recipient of the overall community service award in any way constitute "being the light in someones otherwise dark life".I think her resume speaks for itself!

  • MISS NE DAD,

I apologize for my comments, they were not directed towards Miss Jeffers. Her resume is very solid. I was merely hoping to offer some encouragement and direction to all the other young women who's lives are governed by what they see in the mirror.

  • CPB,

Thank you for the apology, and you are spot on with your advice to women about being more than just what they see in the mirror. This is exactly what Brittany works on with young girls to try and improve self esteem. She encourages them to be happy and confident in their own skin and to realize that each of them has the skills and talent to be anything they set their mind to. It's not about what they see in the mirror but how they feel about themselves and their own abilities in life. Far too often girls are tought via media, friends, enemies or family that the "mirror" is important. She tries to emphasize kindness, confidence and self esteem gained through inner beauty rather than outward appearance.

  • Did people seriously just bash someone for pointing out a typo on an article? This is why I stay the heck away from the political blogs; it does things to people...

Anyway, glad to see more recognition for the excellent "local crop." I hope things go well for her in Las Vegas.

  • Congratulations, Brittany! You are such a beautiful woman and such a postive rolemodel for girls. I am also in pageants, and I have one coming up August 8th in Ralston, Ne. I am going for the title of 2009 National American Miss Nebraska Jr. Teen. This is my 5th year going into the pageant. Mccook has helped me out so much over the years and they are so supportive. When I first started in on pageants, I was so shy and afraid to get in front of people. But, being in pageants has raised my self asteem so much and I am not afraid to speak in front of people. If I were to get in front of 2,000 people I can honestly say I would not be afraid, and that is all because of the pageant. It has helped me so much. And also, your dad is one of the first people I go to for the sponsors for the pageant. He is always willing to help me out, and I thank him so much for that. He has told me so much about you, and he and I noth knew that one day you would be Miss Nebraska, and here you are! One day, I am hoping to be Miss Nebraska, and I know I can be if I work hard enough and believe in myself I can do it. That is what the pageant has taught me.I love your platform and what you stand for. You are also a beautiful woman, and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Again, congratulations on winning Miss Nebraska.

    Olivia Cappel

    National American Miss

P.S. For everyone that keeps saying bad things on here, stop. She is a beautiful woman. What some of you are saying is NOT true. Beauty does not make a woman have self esteem. I admit it sometimes does help. But these pageant help us so much and teach us to not be afraid and go for our goals. They teach us to believe in ourselves and that we can accomplish anything.

  • I know I'm going to eat a big foul-smelling sandwich for this, but are we talking self-esteem, or ego (pride in one self).
