E-F boys edge Trojans in OT
CAMBRIDGE -- Eustis-Farnam boys basketball team edged the Cambridge Trojans 65-61 in overtime Friday night at Cambridge.
Wes Edson led the Knights swishing 23 points. Jordan Bendler added 13 and Drew Wetovick 12 points.
T.J. Vacura scored 19 for the Trojans.

HAYES CENTER -- The Hayes Center hammered the Falcons 77-12 Friday night.
"For the first game of the season we played OK but there were some things that need to be cleaned up as the season progress," said coach Louis Cuellar.
"Hitchcock County really gained my respect because after a tough week, they competed until the buzzer went off.

"It will be interesting how we respond to our first three-hour road trip tomorrow."
Keifer Messersmith led the Cardinals with 12 points. Tyler Clifford and Michael Bishop both scored 10 points.

St. Francis 34
BENKELMAN -- Dundy County-Stratton's Kendal Glidden poured in 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the DCS Tigers blasted St. Francis 66-34 Thursday night in their season opening game at Benkelman.
DCS jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first half and increased the margin to 31-12 at halftime. After St. Francis outscored the Tigers 17-15 in the third quarter, DCS put the game away with a 15-5 final period.
Aaron Baney scored 11 points, Trevor Confer 8 and Willie Mathews 6. Ben Anderson grabbed 9 rebounds and Aaron Baney 5.
"I thought for our first game we played very well defensively," said DCS coach Rob Zarkowski. "We had foul trouble early and the bench really contributed when they were called upon. We were a little lackadaisical coming out of halftime and hopefully we can correct that as the season goes on.
"Even though it is early in the season, our Achilles heel appears to be free throw shooting and we will work hard to correct that problem. I thought the boys did what was asked of them and controlled the tempo of the game. Overall this was a good start to long season."

CAMBRIDGE -- The Cambridge boys basketball team led 17-3 after one quarter and 38-12 at halftime en route to an 82-31 victory over Hitchcock County Thursday night at Cambridge.
T.J. Hayes led the host Trojans with 23 points. Troy hayes added 12. Conner Rich had a "double-double" with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Pake Hilker had 13 rebounds and Cletus Macke dished off 9 assists.
Zach Craz paced the Falcons with 10 points.
The Cambridge junior varsity boys basketball team defeated Hitchcock County 17-13.

ELM CREEK -- The Southern Valley boys defeated Elm Creek 50-44 in area high school basketball.
Southern Valley's Michael Hoxmeier led the game with 20 points, including 4 3-pointers.
David Witte had 12 points.
Elm Creek's Jorden Larrington had 20 points and 10 rebounds followed by Brian Hubbert who had 13 points.

Edward Machen led the Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by Scott Ochs with 13 and Matt Bird 10.
Jon Johnson led Hoxie with 12 points. Taylor Rall scored 11 and Matt Weis 10.
