Bison Junior High wrestlers solid at Holdrege

HOLDREGE -- The McCook Junior High School wrestling team competed at the Holdrege Middle School tournament along with Broken Bow, Minden, Holdrege, Lexington and Franklin.

"This was our first tournament back from the Thanksgiving break," said McCook coach Zane Engelbert. "For the most part our kids wrestled pretty good.There were a few instances that we looked a little rusty from the break.

"Clayton Korus, Cory Engler, TJ Monzon and Darius Bolli all went undefeated at this tournament going 3-0, 2-0, 2-0 and 2-0 respectively. Clayton, Cory and TJ took care of business pinning all of their opponents. Darius also wrestled tough for McCook winning his first match by a 6-1 decision and pinning his second opponent.

"Dakota Baumgartner and Mauro Buero also wrestled very well. Dakota went 1-2 at the tournament, losing his first and third opponent but winning his second match by 9-5 decision.

"Although Mauro went 0-2 at the tournament, he wrestled very aggressive and intense. In his second match Mauro narrowly lost in the last remaining seconds, giving up an escape to put his opponent ahead by one point, losing the match by a 7-8 decision.

"Kyle Stewart and Izaiah Jacob also competed for McCook going 0-2 and 0-3 respectively.Both Kyle and Izaiah were sick or injured prior to Thanksgiving break and looked rusty at this tournament."
