SELDEN -- Edith L. Carman, 104, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2008) at Sheridan County Hospital LTCU in Hoxie, Kan.
She was born Aug. 2, 1904, on a farm northwest of Selden in Decatur County to William E. and Daisy (Dawson) Brainard. She grew up on the farm.
She married Carol Carman on Sept. 12, 1920. She worked as a homemaker. They moved to Selden after marrying in 1920, and remained there until moving to the Sheridan County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in 1999.
She was a member of the Selden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Rebekah's Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carol on Nov. 3, 1975; three brothers, Claude, William and Jesse Brainard; sister, Dolly Wasson; granddaughter, Candace May; great-grandsons, Brian Walker and Riley Carman; and two sons-in-law, Dorman Hill and Don Spurgeon.
Survivors include her son, Stephen Carman and wife, Helen of Selden; daughters, Barbara Spurgeon of Santee, Calif., Carol Hill of Selden and Theda McKee and husband, Fred of Hoxie; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Carman of Oberlin and Evelyn Brainard of Goodland, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Selden United Methodist Church in Selden with the Rev. Glenn Patterson officiating. Interment will be in the Selden Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 -11 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden and noon to service time at the church.
Memorials may be given to the church and the Sheridan County LTCU.
