Hobson resigns as Hastings College women's basketball coach

HASTINGS -- Tony Hobson has resigned as women's basketball coach at Hastings College to take the same position at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan.

Fort Hays State is a Division II school that competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).

The Tigers finished the past year at 12-15 overall and 6-12 in conference play as they finished 9th in the MIAA.

Hobson led the Broncos to three national championship titles in 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2005-2006 while being named NAIA National Coach of the Year in each of those three seasons.

Hobson has had five seasons of 30-plus wins including 34 wins in 2001-2002.

The Broncos reached the national tournament each year Hobson was head coach including five trips to the Final Four.

Hobson accumulated three Conference titles and three Conference Tournament Championships and was named GPAC Coach of the Year twice.

Hobson also had one National Player of the Year, two Conference Player of the Year's and two National Tournament MVP's.

Hobson reached two big milestones this past season as head coach of the Broncos.

Hobson surpassed win No. 400 overall after beating Dakota Wesleyan on Jan. 13 and picked up win No. 200 at Hastings College with a victory over Briar Cliff on Jan. 26.

Hastings College athletic director Fran Hummel has announced that a search to replace Hobson will begin immediately.
