Trojans, Broncos advance to RPAC girls title game
WAUNETA/SOUTHERN VALLEY -- The RPAC basketball tournament begins to wind down, after Thursday night's girls semifinal games.
The boys semifinals begin tonight with the final games for both divisions set for Saturday in Cambridge.
Wauneta-Palisade and Cambridge's girls will vie for the RPAC title on Saturday. The Broncos edged by Hitchcock County 41-36 in the Golden Plains Division. Cambridge beat out Arapahoe 67-41 in the Republican Valley division.
Republican Valley Division
Traci Keyser took top scoring honors for Cambridge. Keyser posted 20 points against the Warriors and had 7 two-points shots and was 3 for 3 in free throws.
Shelby Schultz joined in with 14 points and Frankie Petersen had 13. Petersen and Schultz also had 6 two-pointers each.
Cheryl Braithwait led Arapahoe with 21 points, 7 two-point shots and was 4 for 5 in free throws. Michelle Borden followed with 11 points and had 3 two-pointers.
Southwest thumpedAlma 61-46. Lisa Lord totaled 21 points for the Roughriders win. Abby Houghtelling followed with 9 and both Ashley Weaver and Jennifer Daffer had 8.
Lord also led in two-points shots with 8 and Daffer had 4. Weaver was 2 for in free throws along with Megan Conway.
Lauren Wagoner and Gillian Hogeland led Alma with 11 points and Rachel Asche and Brianna Tripe both had 8.
Southern Valley took out Bertrand 36-28. Hennessey Hogeland was the top scorer for the Eagles with 12 points.
Amy Bowers led the team in rebounds with 10 and Hogeland had 3 assists. Hogeland also had 3 steals along with Bowers and Jesse Sadd.
Amanda High led Bertrand with 11 points. Alexa High had 9 rebounds and Taylor Tacha had 3 steals.
Golden Plains Division
Bethany Riener moved Wauneta-Palisade into the championship bracket after posting 15 points for the Broncos win over the Falcons.
Kaleia Alberts put in 12 points and Blair Dixon had 8. Tia Simpson and Alberts were both 2 for 2 in free throws and Riener was 3 for 6.
Lexey Lewis put in 11 points for the Falcons. Megan Cole followed with 8 points and Ashley Garner had 6. Amanda Leggott was 2 for 2 in free throws and Cole was 4 for 4.
Dundy County-Stratton pushed by Hayes Center 51-40 in the finals in Wauneta.
Amanda Downey led the Tigers to the win. Downey posted 16 points. Courtney Pierson added in 9 points and Hilary Wilson had 8.
Samantha Deaver picked up 17 points and had 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals for the Cardinals.
Morgan Picket trailed with 6 points and had 7 steals and 2 assists along with Rebecca Gigax and Lindsay Ridlen.
Gigax also had 6 rebounds and McKenzie Messersmith had 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Wallace stomped Medicine Valley's girls 44-26 in the final brackets of the tournament.
Wauneta-Palisade and Cambridge's girls pair up in Cambridge at 6:30 p.m., on Saturday for the championship.
Arapahoe will play Hitchcock County in the consolation game, which begins at 3:30 p.m.
The boys semifinals begin tonight in Hayes Center and Southern Valley.
