Pauline M. Horacek

Pauline Mathilda Horacek died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2008), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, at the age of 87.

She was born April 22, 1920, in Hitchcock County, the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Christensen) Frerichs. She attended Hitchcock County School and also Marion Nebraska High School.

In 1938, she married Albert Fortkamp at Wauneta. In 1947, she moved to McCook, where she spent the remainder of her life.

In 1951, Pauline married Joe C. Horacek, who was an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad.

She was a great mom and was extremely loyal to her family. She was a lifetime member of the Peace Lutheran Church, the Peace Lutheran Guild and the L.W.M.L.

She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1652 in McCook and the Burlington Northern Veterans Association.

She enjoyed her flower garden and loved Nebraska Big Red Football and listening to KNGN Radio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and two sisters, six nephews and two nieces.

Pauline is survived by one son, Gerald Fortkamp of Wray, Colo., and special friend, Mila LeValley of Bird City, Kan.; one daughter, Judy Kyle and husband, Terry of Wichita, Kan.; step-son, Joe Horacek and wife, Shirley of Sedalia, Mo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Bill Frerichs and wife, Rosalie of McCook; four sisters, Doris Propp of Colby, Kan., Viola Steinbeck and husband, Everett of National City, Calif., Emma Nelson of Yuma, Ariz., and Thelma Moorhous and husband, Don of Culbertson; one sister-in-law, LeArdis Frerichs of Lexington; relatives; and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, with the Rev. Bradley Rick officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m.
