CURTIS -- Vern Pete Jorgensen, 83, died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 2007), at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born on March 15, 1924, to JP "Pete" and Anna Elsie (Jepsen) Jorgensen in Lincoln County. He grew up in Lincoln County and attended school at Denmark School there. He also attended school at Liberty School and NSA.

He married Darlene Thayer in 1951 in McCook and farmed south of Curtis for many years. He also drove the school bus for 20 years and served as a night police officer in Curtis from 1967 to 1970.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Connie Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Margaret Jorgensen.

Survivors include his daughter Linda and husband, Lee Snyder of McCook; a son-in-law, Rick Jacobs and his wife, Lois of Lincoln; two brothers, Harold Jorgensen and Loren Jorgensen and wife, Lorraine all of Curtis; one sister, Erma Taylor of Casper, Wyo,; three grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Burial will be at the Curtis Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday, noon-5 p.m., with family present from 3-5 p.m., at Blase-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis.
