ARAPAHOE -- Kasey Jo Warner, 28, died Wednesday, (Oct. 3, 2007) southwest of Arapahoe from injuries sustained in a pedestrian-car accident.
She was born on Aug. 31, 1979, in Greeley, Colo., to Jim and Deb (Holzworth) Walker.
She grew up in New Raymer, Colo., on the family ranch, and attended Prairie School in New Raymer and graduated from there in 1998. She was active in school sports, particularly volleyball and basketball. She was involved in agriculture, ranch life and with the New Raymer FFA, serving as chapter president her senior year. She became the Colorado FFA State Vice-President in 1998-99. She earned the American Farmer Degree and was awarded the Star Finalist in the National Beef Proficiency at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in October of 1999.
She attended Colorado State University and McCook Community College and then graduated with honors with her Bachelor of Science degree in biology education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in December 2003. She was chosen as the Outstanding Student at the School of Natural and Social Sciences as well as earning the award for the Best Undergraduate Research Project in the Biology Department. She continued her education with postgraduate studies and earned a Master's of Science in biology in May 2006, also from UNK.
On Nov. 20, 1999, she married Dan Warner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sterling, Colo., and made their home southwest of Arapahoe. She and Dan served as sponsors for the Arapahoe FFA Chapter and were sponsors of the Nebraska Junior Gelbvieh Association. In 2003 she became the varsity coach for Arapahoe High School girls' volleyball. Kasey also served as an interim coach for the McCook Community College girls' volleyball team in the spring of 2006.
She began her position as the biology instructor at McCook Community College in August 2004. She served as the co-sponsor of Student Senate at the college. She was awarded the Innovative Ideas award for Mid-Plains Community Colleges in September of this year and served on the Mid-Plains Community College Wellness Committee.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Ben Walker, her cousin Dusty Branning, her great-grandmothers Penny Headley and Elizabeth Holzworth, her great grandfather Jim Silvis, and her uncle Blaine Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Warner of Arapahoe; daughters, Gentry and Berkley of Arapahoe; her parents, Jim and Deb Walker of New Raymer, Colo.; a brother, Colby and wife, Karrie Walker of Merino; parents-in-law, Monte and wife Kristie Warner of Arapahoe, Nebraska; grandparents, K. C. and wife, Jo Holzworth of Stoneham, Colo., Vera Walker of Sterling, Colo., Ralph and Joanne Lammers and Robert and Marjorie Warner, all of Arapahoe.
Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe with the Revs. David Otten and Mike Paulism, officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe.
Visitation will be Saturday, 1-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home, of Arapahoe.
