Plea goes out to save old depot

DANBURY -- An urgent letter of appeal has been sent Danbury alumni and friends of the Danbury Depot, asking for donations to save the depot.
In the letter, the Danbury Depot Committee declares: "The old Railroad Depot Museum in Danbury needs your help. The physical condition of the building has deteriorated. Windows are falling apart. The east wall is beginning to buckle. Roof panels are peeling. The building needs immediate repairs to roof, windows and the east wall. Other repairs are also needed to make the building safe to enter."
According to the committee, the cost of repairs could be in the thousands of dollars. The committee reports that the Danbury Village Board has voted to close the museum because the village cannot afford to do the repairs.
The Danbury Depot Committee is composed of Vera Cumming (308-895-2482); Ardie Berry (308-895-2371); Pat Redfern (308-345-7543); Dean Skiles (308-895-2354); and Brent Wegner (bwegher@hot mail.com).
"Every dollar donated will help toward re-opening the depot museum," the committee members said.
To give the fund drive a boost, the committee is planning a bake sale and auction Aug. 18 during Danbury Days.
The event will be on the depot grounds. Everyone interested is invited to attend. Members of "Save the Depot" committee will be there to discuss the project's progress.
"If you have any ideas to help, we would be happy to listen," the Danbury Depot Committee members said. They pointed out that no one will be allowed to go into the depot until repairs are made.
