Charles I. Groves

Charles Irven Groves died Tuesday (May 1, 2007) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, at the age of 95.
He was born Sept.13, 1911, in Frontier County, the son of the late Fred and Carrie (Anderson) Groves. He grew up in the Quick Community in Frontier County and graduated from District 91 rural school. He began farming on the family farm where he also raised livestock.
On Sept. 30, 1939, Charles married Ruth DeWane and they spent their married life farming in Frontier County until their retirement. They remained on the farm and enjoyed traveling to both the East and West Coasts.
For several years he served on both the school and election boards. He was a member of the Garden Prairie United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth on March 28, 1989; son, Harold Groves; his parents; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou; son-in-law, Ed Oberg; and sister, Audrey Dicke.
Charles is survived by daughter, Charlotte Oberg of Culbertson; sons, Lenus Groves and wife, Nancy of Palmyra, Allen Groves of Battleground, Wash., and Harry Groves and wife, Cindy of Casper, Wyo.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Groves and wife, Madeline; and sister-in-law, Thelma Albrecht, all of McCook.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook, with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
