Area junior high teams compete at Maywood meet

The McCook St. Patrick's track teams competed in the Maywood Junior High track meet Tuesday at the McCook High School track.

Hayes Center won the event on the girls side. St. Pats followed in second, Maywood was third and Medicine Valley was fourth.

Medicine Valley came out on top in the boys division. Maywood took second, Hayes Center was third and St. Pats followed in fourth.

"Our sixth, seventh and eighth grade competed very well for our first meet this season," said McCook St. Pats coach Jim Steinke.

"The temperature was a bit cold with intermittent drizzle. I felt our kids were for the most part ready to compete."

Meagan Carfield and Emily Tolliver were first place medal winners for St. Pats.

Carfield won the 200 and Tolliver took the 1600. The Knights also won the 4x100 relay with team members, Amanda Fuchuck, Taylor Adams, Gretchen Sehnert and Meagan Carfield.

Halsie Large took home two first place medals for Hayes Center.

Large won the 100 and long jump. Hayes Center won the 4x400 relay.

Haley Nicholson was also a double medal winner for Medicine Valley winning the high jump and pole vault.

St. Pat's boys Alan Goodenberger, Alex Broadfoot, Kyle Gaston and Luke Mabile teamed up to finish second in the 4x100 relay.

Tylan Peterson took home four first place medals for Maywood. Peterson won the long jump, 400, 200 and pole vault.

Martin Warneke and Devon Fritsche were double medal winners for Medicine Valley. Warneke won the high jump and 800, while Fritsche took the discus and shot put.

The Raiders also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

The next meet for the McCook St. Patrick's Knights will be at Benkelman on April 11.
