COLUMBUS -- The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos, the Nebraska Class D-1 state champions with a 25-0 record, were honored by the Associated Press with six players on its All-State Boys and Girls Basketball Teams.
Wauneta-Palisade seniors Andrew Isom and Marc Klima topped the Class D-1 boys First Team, and teammates Russell Ridlen and Trevor Ridlen were named to the Second Team.
Wauneta-Palisade also had two players recognized as honorable mention picks -- Taylor Dixon and Chad Flaig.
Other McCook Daily Gazette area players receiving honorable mention status in Class D-1 were Adam Borden, Dillon Breinig, Adam Snyder, Jordan Spaulding, Arapahoe; Kyle Glidden, Dundy County; Derek Williams, Eustis-Farnam; Matt Gohl, Levi Tyan, Hayes Center; Joshua Kershaw, John Thompson, Hitchcock County; and Ben Wolfe, Medicine Valley.
McCook's Cory Gaston and Josh Cherry were honorable mention picks in Class B.
Making honorable mention in Class C-1 were Taylor Wentz, Chase County; and Brock Einspahr, Jared Maruhn, Southern Valley.
The Gazette area also has two first-team girls honorees.
Cambridge's Shelby Schultz and Arapahoe's Cheryl Braithwait were named to the Class D-1 Girls First Team.
Honorable mention girls picks from the area were Brittany Fanning, Arapahoe; Traci Keyser, Frankie Petersen, Cambridge; Jacey Schultheiss, Katie Fagot, Eustis-Farnam; Lacy Bryant, Medicine Valley; and Kaleia Alberts, Blair Dixon, Allison Ellicott, Gina Geier, Wauneta-Palisade.
McCook senior Jessica Harris, who set a school record for most 3-pointers in a game with eight, was an honorable mention Class B girls team selection.
Honorable mention picks in Class C-1 girls were Whitney Paisley, Chase County; and Mallory Murdoch, Ashley Strickland, Southern Valley.
Southwest's Chelsey Quigley was a honorable mention pick in Class C-2.
In Class D-2, Maywood's Susan Koester was an honorable mention selection.
