Rawlins County girls reach 1A regional semis; Season over for Cheylin teams

SHARON SPRINGS, Kan. -- The Rawlins County-Atwood girls basketball team advanced in the Kansas 1A regionals after trumping Weskan 63-42 Tuesday.

Cheylin's girls finished their season after dropping to Tribune 67-34.

Cheylin and Rawlins County's boys are also done for the season.

Cheylin fell to Brewster 78-39 and Rawlins County came up short to Weskan 70-62.

Sara Miller led the Buffaloes to the win over Weskan. Miller had 24 points and made 10 two-point shots. Emily Wahrman scored 13 points and Laura Wolters 9.

Payton Walker, Breanna Hilgemann and Jade Saxson each scored 9 points for Weskan.

Aubrey Kehlbeck led the Cheylin girls against Tribune with 20 points and Tia Sager had 7.

Lincoln Pochop and Jacob White paired up for the Cheylin boys.

Both boys had 10 points each. Terry Jensen followed with 7 and White had 5.

Rawlins County's girls (12-8) will play Sharon Springs (15-3) on Thursday in Sharon Springs.

OBERLIN -- Decatur Community (Oberlin) boys and girls took the floor against Phillipsburg Tuesday.

The Red Devil girls pushed by Phillipsburg 64-52, but the boys fell behind 65-61.

Lauren Fortin posted 18 points for Oberlin girls win. Sara Murray added in 16 and Heather Williams had 9.

Dusin and Schilowsky joined in with 14 points each for Phillipsburg. Bilby had 10 and Redinger and Robertson both had 7.

Jobey Black put in 23 points for the Red Devils. Kurt Olson followed with 13 and Lucas Juenemann had 6.

Jarret Abell led Phillipsburg with 22 points. Dylan Frantz followed with 18 and Garrett Wickham had 16.

Hoxie sweeps

St. Francis

HOXIE -- St. Francis' boys and girls basketball teams fell to Hoxie Tuesday.

The Indian boys came up short 58-47, while the girls were down 69-38.

Levi Weeden led the boys against Hoxie with 12 points. Joel McAtee and Ted Crabtree teamed up with 11 points each and Mac Frewen had 6.

Thayne Spresser led Hoxie with 25 points. Jake Moss had 16 and Michael Yergey had 8.

Lauren Ross put in 14 points for St. Francis's girls. Sidnee Crabtree followed with 7 and Alicia Zimbelman had 6.

Darra Stithem and Bailey Ochs both had 16 points for Hoxie.

Rebecca Farber followed with 14 and Tiffany Goetz had 10.
