Bison 8th grade boys finish season with sweep

The McCook Junior High School eighth grade boys basketball A, B and C teams finished the season Monday with a sweep of Cozad at the MJH gymnasium.

The A team won 56-9, the B team won 45-4 and the C team won 23-5.

The Bison A team posted a 4-2 record this season, the B team was 5-1 and the C team was 2-3.

Connor Larson led the A team with 16 points. Ryan Powell scored 7, Drew Shields 6, Kyle Craw 5, Nathan Weintz 5, Keith Wallace 5, Cody Goltl 4, Brad Baumbach 2, Ben Vetrovsky 2, Grant Wilcox 2 and Brandon Yost 2.

"The team did a good job of playing pressure defense," said McCook coach Bill Ramsay. "Our defense caused some turnovers, which created some easy scoring opportunities. The players played very smart and hit the open man for the basket. We did a good job of rebounding and running our secondary fastbreak."

Brad Baumbach, Greg Stafford and Tanner Samway each scored 8 points to lead the Bison B team. Nathan Weintz scored 5, Austin Bishop 4, Branden Yost 4, Kyle Craw 2, Nathan Priebe 2 and Ben Vetrovsky 2.

"The team did a good job of running the floor and hitting the open man," Ramsay said. "Our secondary break gave us a lot of good looks at the basket. The players did a good job of playing team defense, which gave us some fastbreak baskets."

Cory Dallam and Keldan Osterman each scored 6 points to lead the Bison C team. Chris Conroy scored 5, Brian Cox 4 and Joe Kenny 2.

"The team did a nice job of playing pressure man-to-man defense," Ramsay said. "The pressure led to some layup baskets."
