Southwest claims GPAC volleyball tournament title

CURTIS -- Southwest's volleyball team captured the GPAC tournament title Tuesday.

The Roughriders defeated Hitchcock County in the semifinals and Wallace for the title win.

Wallace defeated Dundy County in the semifinals. The Dundy County Tigers won the consolation game against Hitchcock County in four tight sets.

Morgan Potthoff and Lisa Lord teamed up for the Southwest win against the Falcons.

Potthoff had 10 points, 5 ace, 25 assists and 4 digs and Lord had 10 points, 1 ace, 12 kills and 4 ace blocks. Jennifer Daffer and Abby Houghtelling added in 7 points each.

Houghtelling also had 1 ace, 4 kills and 2 digs and Daffer had 2 aces. Chelsey Quigley led in kills with 11 and Ashley Weaver had 10 digs.

Quigley led the team against Wallace in the championship game. Quigley posted 11 points and had 3 aces, 10 kills and 13 digs.

Potthoff and Houghtelling both had 7 points and Lord had 8. Potthoff also led in assists with 24 and had 2 aces and 5 digs.

Lord had 1 ace, 5 kills, 3 digs and 4 ace blocks and Houghtelling had 1 ace, 3 kills and 3 digs. Alisha Weaver put in 10 digs and Megan Conway had 3 ace blocks.

The teams return to the court on next week for sub-districts.

McCook falls to Chase County

IMPERIAL -- McCook's varsity volleyball team fell at Chase County Tuesday.

"Chase County is a great team," said Bison coach Krystal Weber. "You can't have slow starts against teams of that caliber or it is difficult to regain your composure."

Erica Clapp and Lindsey Hazlitt led the Lady Bison in assists. Clapp had 13 and Hazlitt had 12. Clapp also had 10 digs and 6 kills.

Joanna Bryant led in digs with 14 and had 5 kills and 1 ace. Hanah Swanhorst had 1 block and Tara Powell had 9 digs.

Sam Brown joined in with 5 kills and Audrie Krepcik had 1 ace.

The Bison, 8-19, gear up for sub-districts, which start next week.

Cambridge beats Elm Creek

ELM CREEK -- Cambridge's volleyball team added on another win Tuesday, after downing Elm Creek.

Katie McCurdy and Traci Keyser posted 10 points each for the Lady Trojans. Shelby Schultz followed with 10 points and Jenna Dietz had 7.

Frankie Petersen led the team in assists with 19 and had 19 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces.

Kymbre Lytle put in 17 digs and Schultz had 17 kills, 9 digs, 4 aces and 4 aces blocks. Keyser had 14 kills, 9 digs and 3 ace blocks and McCurdy had 16 assists and 7 digs.

Jordan Smith led the Elm Creek team. Smith had 13 kills, 3 aces and 1 ace block. Britney Foster followed with 7 kills and Natasha Coons had 1 ace.

S. Valley 2nd at Franklin

FRANKLIN -- Southern Valley finished second in the Franklin invite Monday. The Eagles went 1-1 in the event.

The Eagles edged by Wilcox-Hildreth in the first game, but fell short to Alma in the second.

"Tonight was a good night for us," said Southern Valley coach Suzanne Stanton. "It was great to get the much needed win against Wilcox-Hildreth.

"We really took care of the ball on offense and that helped things. It was also great to play Alma since we haven't seen them this year. I'm very proud of the girls efforts and it feels good to bring home a second place trophy."

Cassie Brooks and Trisha Siebels led the team against Wilcox-Hildreth.

Both girls posted 17 points, with Brooks adding in 21 assists and 23 digs and Siebels put in 9 kills and 18 digs.

Ashley Strickland had 14 kills, 13 points and 22 digs and Abby Schoen had 14 points and 4 aces. Allison Hunt joined in the win with 10 digs and Jessie Sadd had 9 kills.

Brooks was the top scorer against Alma. Brooks totaled 20 points and had 5 digs, 2 blocks, 3 aces, 3 kills and 15 assists.

Siebels followed with 11 points and had 7 digs, 1 block, 2 aces and 5 kills. Strickland led in kills with 8 and had 12 digs and Sadd had 3 blocks.

Perkins rolls past Garden

GRANT -- Perkins County defeated Garden County in volleyball action Tuesday.

Carlie Sis led the Perkins County with 12 kills, 5 ace blocks, 10 blocks and 1 ace.

Jessica Cornelius had 10 assists and Mackenzie Hite had 17 and 6 aces.

Sara Wilson put in 9 blocks and 8 kills and Kylie Croup had 7 blocks.
