High Plains Freedom Flight set for Oct. 28-29
The McCook Chamber of Commerce has announced plans to sponsor the 2006 High Plains Freedom Flight.
The event Oct. 28 and 29, will include early morning lift-offs, when colorful hot air balloons launch and spread out to cover the Southwest Nebraskan sky for a couple of days. Balloons are brought in from across the country to fly at our special event, so you're sure to experience an excellent show. During the '80s, McCook was host to one of the most colorful annual family events held in the Midwest. McCook Balloon Blast featured an amazing display of hot air balloons, spreading out across the Southwest Nebraska sky and thrilling spectators of all ages.
After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the McCook Chamber of Commerce reunited previous Balloon Blast pilots, crew volunteers and participants to put together an all new Balloon Fest. Launching the "High Plains Freedom Flight" as a special tribute to freedom, this event claims the skies once again with bright colors and the peaceful flight of hot air balloons.
Interested parties can become a part of this great Southwest Nebraska event and take advantage of the marketing opportunities available. A variety of balloonists from across the country travel to McCook to fly at our special event and attracting a large number of area visitors to the area.
It is the chamber's goal to continually develop a strong ballooning event, making it one of Nebraska's most outstanding family events.
