Southwest spikers down Southern Valley

SOUTHWEST -- Southwest posted another win for the season, after downing Southern Valley's Eagles, Thursday.

"It was a good tough game," said Southwest Coach Dennis Troester. "We had to shuffle our line-up right before the start of the game, but worked our way through it."

Abby Houghtelling and Ashley Weaver tallied the points for the Roughriders. Houghtelling had 11 points with 4 aces, 3 kills and 3 blocks. Weaver scored 10 points, 4 kills, and 3 digs. Morgan Potthoff had 28 assists and teammate Chelsey Quigley had 13 kills and six digs.

Cassie Brooks and Trisha Siebels led the Eagles in scoring. Brooks had 13 points and 8 digs and Siebels had 10 points and 6 digs. Ashley Strickland led the team in attacks with 10, she also had 10 digs and 9 points and Alyssa Steele had 15 assists and 8 digs.

Maywood loses

at Maxwell

MAXWELL -- Maywood's volleyball team came up short at Maxwell Thursday 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

"Our serving and passing were big downfalls," said Maywood Coach Shauna Donohoe. "We just couldn't get anything going."

Kadee Arensdorf led the Tigers in serves with 2 aces and 12 points and setting with 11 assists. Megan Bollish added 5 points and two aces.

Desarae Messersmith had 2 assists. Michelle Hastings, Staci and Susan Koester were the top hitters for the team. Hastings had 3 kills, Staci had 4 and Susan had 7.

The Tigers will play Hitchcock County on Tuesday.

Perkins County

beats Holyoke

GRANT -- Perkins County's volleyball team edged out Holyoke, Colo., Thursday 25-18, 25-19, 25-18.

"We came out tonight on a mission, we were to attack every ball and be aggressive, and we did," said coach Renee Marquardt. "We are still learning about ourselves as a team. All three teams did well, with wins."

Carlie Sis led the team with 8 kills, 4 ace blocks, 11 blocks and 2 aces. Debra Johnson put 5 aces, 7 assists, 4 kills and 6 blocks. Lesley Dudden was 7-8 in passing.

The Plainsmen will play South Platte/Paxton at Big Springs on Thursday.
