NORTH PLATTE -- McCook's freshman football team improved to 2-0 with a 32-20 win North Platte Blue 32-20 Thursday at North Platte.

"I thought the kids made a big step in improvement of their game," said Bison freshman football coach Bill Beckenhauer.

"Offensively we executed very well. I though Chad Stull did a nice job of reading the veer and our offensive line play created some big holes for the backs.

The Bison defense held the North Platte Blue back allowing just three runs.

"Defensively I thought we improved in the areas of pursuit and tackling," Beckenhauer said. " Our inside linebackers, A.J. Huffman and Greg Younger and defensive ends, Shane Wallen and Marcus Wilson did a great job of stopping their running game."

Stull led the Bison in the first quarter with a 4-yard pass to Shane Wallen, giving the Bison the lead 6-0. Deon Allen led in the second with a 3 yard run.

Stull fired another pass for 27 yards to Allen, giving the Bison 12 more points to the board, but North Platte came back with a 56 yard pass, ending the first half 18-6.

The Bison defense held the Blue back, while Stull passed 6 yards to Jimmy Barron and Andy Smith ran 17 yards in the third, giving the Bison a distant lead 32-6.

North Platte tried to return in the fourth, adding a 26 yard run and 86 yard run to the scoreboard, but still coming up short to the Bison.
