John J. Mesh/McCook Daily Gazette McCook High School freshman Alex Trew practices her driving on the Heritage Hills driving range. Trew and her Bison teammates host the McCook Invitational at 9 a.m. Friday.

The McCook High School girls golf team will start the fall season by hosting the McCook Invitational Friday at Heritage Hills.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Golfers will play the front nine holes twice instead of playing the front and back nine.

Other teams expected to compete are Minden, Holdrege, Lexington and Gothenburg.

McCook girls golf coach Randy Ryser's squad will feature no seniors and will be led by three-year letterwinner Justine Hager.

Four newcomers round out the squad -- junior Kellanie Pinkal, sophomore Corinne O'Dea and ninth graders Alex Trew and Becky Goodenberger.

"Justine Hager will be one of the better players in this part of the state," Ryser said.

"Our younger kids have done a good job and have worked hard. They're looking to make improvements and like the game."

Ryser said Scottsbluff, Minden, Lexington and Holdrege should be the toughest teams the Bison will face this fall.
