Bison assistant Jeff Mollring honored
Coach receives Milestone, Farrand Awards; George Briggs also recognized
LINCOLN -- Last Thursday, McCook High School's Jeff Mollring was awarded the Level 4 Milestone Award in Boys Track at the Nebraska Coaches Association's annual banquet.
The awards were presented in the Great Hall at the Train Station in the Haymarket in Lincoln.
Jeff Mollring has been coaching Boys Track for 27 years; 1 year in Amherst, 4 years in Gothenburg, 16 years in Cambridge and 6 years in McCook.
This award is the highest level a coach can attain in the program. Each year applications for Milestone Awards are made to Jerry Stine of Bertrand, who was instrumental in developing this award.
A committee of past presidents then select the award winners. Each sport has its own set of criteria to achieve the four different levels of recognition.
Jeff Mollring was also awarded the Jim Farrand Award, along with McCook's George Briggs, as Assistant Coaches of the Year by the Nebraska Coaches Association.
This year there were five assistants coaches selected in the state for this award.
Briggs' award is for volleyball and Mollring's award is for football.
Coach Jeff Gross states in his nomination letter to the Coaches Association:
"Is it by accident that since we hired "Coach Mo" that we are 65-8, with two state championships, and two state-runner-ups?" I think not.
"He is as big a reason for our success as anyone. His defensive units are consistently ranked in the top 5 in class B, and he is regarded as one of the best coordinators by coaches of the teams we play.
"He is a stable well rounded "rock" for our program. I use the word rock, because the athletes know he will be there for them.
"It is my belief that because of Jeff's high moral and personal standards, everyone around him has been inspired to achieve more."
Jeff and his wife, Sue Ann have three sons -- Scott and wife, Annie; Grant and wife, Mandi; and Jay and wife, Amanda. All live in Kearney.
