Bison boys 3200 relay places third at state

OMAHA -- The McCook High School boys 3200-meter relay team of senior Cody Martin and juniors Andy Lambing, Jon Bryant and Josh Cherry finished third at the Nebraska Class B division at the state track meet Friday morning at Omaha Burke Stadium.

The foursome posted a time of 8 minutes, 9.192 seconds and placed behind Scottsbluff (8:00.766) and York (8:06.474).

Classes B and D competed Friday morning and Classes A and C competed Friday afternoon and evening.

The state track meet will continue at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Chase County's foursome of Scott Ohlson, Taylor Wentz, Darrin Schultz and Brett Gooden placed fourth with a time of 8:09.756.

McCook senior Micah Kamla settled for seventh place in the Class B boys triple jump with a mark of 42 feet, 11 1/4 inches.

McCook senior Brandon Kotschwar did not qualify for the finals with his time of 16.368. Kotschwar and teammate John Swanhorst did not qualify for the 300-meter hurdle finals.

McCook senior Brendan Liess qualified for the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 22.709 seconds and the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.418.

McCook's Mason Pohl tied for 6th in the pole vault, clearing 13-6.

Ryan Bedore cleared 13 feet and tied for seventh. McCook's David Swisher and two others cleared 12-6.

In the Class B shot put, Chase County's Abel Hinojosa finished 13th with an effort of 49 feet, 1/4 inch.

Chase County's Gabe Lenners earned the eighth spot in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time 15.26.

Class B girls

Chase County's Tiffany Regier posted a mark of 15-10 in the long jump and placed 14th.

Teammate Cara Kunneman was 12th in the 3200 with a time of 12:40.742.

Class D boys

Hitchcock County's Joshua Kershaw posted the fasted qualifying time in the Class D boys 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.976 seconds.

Wauneta-Palisade's Taylor Dixon qualified for the finals of the Class D boys 100-meter dash with a sixth-place prelim time of 11.522 seconds.

Cambridge's Lance Shifflet and Arapahoe's Ryan Stagemeyer did not qualify for the finals.

In the Class D boys 3200-meter relay, Dundy County just missed earning a team point. The Tigers placed seventh with a time of 8:35.403. Cambridge was 10th in 8:40.55, Wallace 11th in 8:40.605 and Arapahoe 13th in 8:50.359.

In Class D boys high jump, Wallace's Michael West and Hitchcock County's Tyrell Riggs both cleared 5-10 and tied for seventh with five other athletes.

Tyler Kugler of Eustis-Farnam placed sixth overall in the Class D boys 400-meter dash prelims with a time of 51.572 and qualified for Saturday's finals. Not qualifying from the area was Wallace's Jacob Smith.

Kugler also qualified for the 200 finals with a time of 23.44 seconds.

Dundy County's Brandon Shirkey placed ninth in the 3200 with a time of 10:46.669.

Teammate Zane Starks was 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 41-3 1/4. Medicine Valley's Joseph Warneke and Arapahoe's Adam Snyder pasted efforts of 40-4 and 39-7 3/4.

Class D girls

Cambridge's Baily Soucie and Shelby Schultz placed 2-3 in the Class D girls discus with marks of 116 feet and 114-4.

Eustis-Farnam's Jessika Lehmann was ninth with a mark of 107-2 and Arapahoe's Abbey Breinig was 17th with a throw of 94-4.

Medicine Valley's Heather Wills placed third in the Class D girls long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 10 inches.

Eustis-Farnam placed third in the Class D girls 3200-meter relay with a time of 10:12.644. The foursome featured Kallie Craig, Hilary Messersmith, Katie Fagot and Teran Alderman.

Maywood placed ninth in 10:17.

Medicine Valley's Christine Fisher was fifth in the Class D girls pole vault, clearing 9-6. Hitchcock County's Ashley Garner was sixth, clearing 9-0.
