GOTHENBURG -- The McCook High School boys golf team won the Gothenburg Invitational title Thursday with a 311 score and senior Brandon Crick won first-place individual medalist honors with a 67.

The tournament was played at the Wild Horse Golf Course.

The Bison golfers edged out North Platte 311-312 for the tournament title.

Lexington finished third with a 318 score, followed by Gering 322, Ogallala 323, Sidney 329, Cozad 338, Holdrege 343, Broken Bow 347, Minden 350 and Gothenburg 369.

Crick fired a 32 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine for his 67. He beat North Platte's Kade Mohrman by two strokes. Mohrman fired a 69.

McCook's Mitch Hazlitt earned the 13th-place medal with an 80. He shot a 35 on the front nine and 45 on the back nine.

Garrett Rippen fired a 39 on the back nine holes and posted an 81 -- just missing the medals.

Freshman Joe Vetrovsky shot 83 and Aaron Goodenberger 86. Eric Rippen also competed for the Bison.

"We had a nice team effort today with each member scoring becoming a factor in our victory," said McCook boys golf coach Dan Hilton. "Mitch's 35 on the front side was a very nice score for him. He had some trouble on the back but stayed with it to post an 80. The 39 on the back side for Garrett helped him post an 81 for us. Freshman Joe Vetrovsky had an excellent round for his first varsity match by shooting an 83.

"Putting those together with Brandon's 67 gave us the team title with a 311. Brandon had a very solid round today and I think that this is just the start of posting some low scores for us. He was very focused today.

"Aaron also shot a nice score today with an 86 and Eric just had some trouble on a few holes or he could have been lower.

"I think that as a team we are getting a little more confidence and we will continue to improve our team total and we will need to continue to improve our game on the way to the district match.
