Arapahoe boys, Southern Valley girls roll to victories

SOUTHERN VALLEY -- Arapahoe slipped past Southern Valley 49-40 in boys basketball play here Friday.

Tony Braithwait tosssed 23 points through the basket to lead Arapahoe in scoring. Teammate Blake Maaske added 16 points.

Southern Valley was led by Andrew Wiscott with 14 points, followed by Jared Maruhn with 11 points.

The winning Warriors were 17-for-37 from the field and 10-for-17 from the line.

The Eagles tossed in 15-of-45 from the floor and 3-of-6 free throws.

Both teams will play in the Republican Valley League Tournament Monday. Arapaphoe drew a bye. Southern Valley travels to Cambridge.

SOUTHERN VALLEY -- The Southern Valley girls basketball team defeated Arapahoe 61-45 in girls basketball play here Friday night.

Megan Becker poured in 18 points to lead the winning Eagles.

Alyssa Steele chipped in 12 points, follwed by Mallory Murdoch and Janea Perkins with 10 points each.

Leading scorer for the Warriors was Abby Breinig wirh 14 points.

Both teams will play in the Republican Valley League Tournament Monday. Arapahoe drew a bye. Southern Valley will host Alma.

Matt Gohl led the winning Cardinals in scoring with 10 points.

MAYWOOD -- Bertrand rolled to a 74-33 victory over Maywood in boys high school basketball play here Friday night.

Jordon High pumped in 22 points to led the winning Vikings in scoring. Cody Kuck chipped in 11 points, followed by Cary Nelson with 10 points.

The Tigers' leading scorer was Trenton Whitman with 15 points.

Bertrand tossed in 35 of 77 from the floor and seven of 25 free shots.

Maywood was 16-for-56 from the field and 6-for-13 from the line.

Bertrand travels to Alma Monday for the opening round of the Republican Valley League Tournament.

Maywood hosts Hitchcock County Friday.

MAYWOOD -- Bertrand romped to a 55-26 win over Maywood in girls high school basketball action here Friday.

The winning Vikings were led in scoring by K. Troutman and C. Barnes with 12 points each. A. Fastenau followed with 11 points.

Leading scorer for the Tigers was Staci Koester with eight points.

Bertrand tossed in 13 of 19 freethrows for 68 percent.

Maywood was 8-for-19 from the line for 42 percent.

Bertrand plays Dundy County at Benkelman Monday in the first round of the Republican Valley League Tournament. Maywood hosts Hitchcock County Friday.

WALLACE -- Dundy County's girls took the win against Wallace Thursday.

Wallace tried to come back in the second half but the Tigers won 53-41.

Vanessa Shill led the Tigers in the win with 24 points. Echo Steele trailed with 9 points. Courtney Pierson had 6 points. Jessica Davis, Shalee Roundtree and Suzie Wilson had 4 points.

Davis led in rebounds with 7 total. Pierson and Steele had 7 turnovers. Shill led in steals with 4.
