AL downs NL in MMBA Cubs All-Star baseball game

The McCook Midget Baseball Association, Inc. sponsored an all-star game at Felling Field last week.

The American League defeated the National League 11-9.

The game started with three hits by the National League coming from Ryan Powell, Rielly Lauer and Wyatt Kain.

The American League's Brad Baumbach doubled to start the AL's half of the inning and scored on the sacrifice by Cody Goltl.

In the 2nd it was 3 up, 3 down for the AL while the NL put 3 runs up on a single by Austin Bishop, a home run by Kyle Craw and singles from Drew Shields, Brandon Yost and Justin Malleck.

In the 3rd the NL was got their only hits from Luke Mabile (double) and Ryan Powell (single) but were held to 2 runs while the AL scored Cory Dallam on a stolen bases after being walked.

At the end of 3 it was 5-2 with the NL leading the AL.

A 3-run home run by Baumbach in the 4th started the scoring rally for the AL with 7 runs coming from hot bats.

Singles from Keith Wallace, Cody Goltl, Alex Broadfoot and a double from Tyler Van Pelt helped put up those 7 runs.

The 4th for the NL saw singles from Kain, Bishop, Shields and Chris Lewis helped put 3 runs up for their half of the inning making the score 8-9 with the AL leading.

The 5th saw the NL go hitless while the AL put up one run on one hit, 3 walks and a stolen base allowing Tony Roe to score.

In the top half of the 6th the NL scored Sean Backer on a walk with 3 stolen bases. In the bottom of the 6th the AL put up 1 run with Grant Wilcox getting a home run on a first-pitch strike.

In the top half of the 7th the NL got a double from Andrew Weaver but the pitching staff of the AL held the NL scoreless to finish the game 11-9 for the AL.

Balloting was performed during the championship tournament. Each team in the Cubs division sent 3 all-stars to their respective team.

The players were selected by teammates voting for two players and coaches selecting one player.
