Robert L. 'Bob' Laird

Robert L. "Bob" Laird, 71, of Bartley, died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2005) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Edward and Velma (Sheets) Ritthaller. He was adopted by Chester "Chet" Laird on July 26 after his birth father died while he was still an infant.

Bob grew up in the Indianola area graduating from Indianola High School in 1951.

On July 26, 1952, he married Joann Tomlin. She preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2002. He worked for the AMCO Transmission Co. He was a troubleshooter and traveled the country fixing transmissions. He retired as a regional manager for the company.

After retirement, he worked as a courier for the Citadel Bank in Colorado Springs, Colo. He moved to Bartley in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joann; and daughter, Susan K. Hackencamp on July 17, 1996.

Survivors include one son, William Laird of Pueblo West, Colo.; one son-in-law, David J. Hackencamp of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters, Bev and husband, Larry Anderson of Spokane, Wash., and Lee Blackman of Indianola; two brothers-in-law, Ken and wife, Peggy Tomlin of Bartley and Charles and wife, Ilene Tomlin of Osceola; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Memorial services are Friday, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Indianola with the Rev. David Rowe officiating.

There is no public viewing.

A private inurnment is being planned for a future date.
