LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Frederick Glenn "Fred" Harvey, 85, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2005) at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence.

He was born Feb. 17, 1919, to Freddie Lee and Dora (Denchfield) Harvey in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He was a member of the Honor Association and Merit Society in high school. He attended Salvation Army Training School in Chicago, Ill., in 1940. He served as a captain in the Salvation Army during the 40's and 50's.

On June 13, 1944, he married Joyce Elatha Ulbirch. She preceded him in death in September of 1982.

On Oct. 13, 1984, he married Ruth Kerr. He pastored many churches in McCook and Trenton and was involved in lay ministries in Colorado Springs, Norman and Oklahoma City, Okla.

He then was an independent contract painter and painter for the University of Oklahoma until his retirement. He also hosted a radio ministry in Oklahoma City for ten years.

He served as an elder at Grace Gospel Chapel in Oklahoma City and was a member of the Lawrence Bible Chapel in Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Lawrence; three sons, Lawrence Glenn Harvey of McCook, Gerald Stephen Harvey of Lawrence and Richard Allen Harvey of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Victoria Kuhn and Nora Wyatt, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, 4 p.m., at Lawrence Bible Chapel in Lawrence.

The family will greet friends from 3 p.m., until service time on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Lawrence Bible Chapel and sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence is in charge of the arrangements.
