Southwest downed McCook on "Senior Night" at the McCook High School Gymnasium last night 25-21,19-25, 25-13, 25-21.
Corin Hartzer, Abbee Haney, Danae Owens, Sara Cappel, Courtney Moore and Jessica Watkins played the final home match of their high school careers last night.
It was a back and forth first set, until the Roughriders took control late, thanks in part to some McCook errors.
"We came out aggressive like we wanted to, but we shot ourselves in the foot with unforced errors," said McCook coach Krystal Weber.
McCook returned the favor in the next set, taking control late and winning a back and forth second set.
Southwest took control in the third set. The Bison trailed by 10 points three times before the Roughriders pulled away to win the set by 12.
The fourth set was another close one, but Southwest would hold on for the win.
"Its a fun game, I think the adrenaline was too high and we kept serving into the net," said Southwest coach Dennis Troester.
Cappel had 10 kills to lead the Bison. Allison Smith had nine and Moore chipped in eight.
Savannah Noyes had a game high 24 kills for Southwest. Cayla Skaritka added 10 kills for the Roughriders.
Brittany McConville had 35 assists for the Southwest Roughriders.
Haney had 19 assists for McCook and Watkins added 10 assists.
"We had 12 service errors. We can't make errors like that and expect to beat a great team like Southwest," said Weber.
Southwest, now 15-4, will be at the Cozad tournament on Saturday.
"I think we can compete very well. We have Cambridge in our bracket, and that will be our fourth meeting with them," said Troester.
"We have Grant in the first round, so we will have to step up and play well."
McCook is 7-19 and will be at Chase County next Tuesday.
"This is the best part of the schedule to play tough teams, you want to play the tough competition to prepare for districts," said Weber.

The McCook sophomore volleyball team defeated Southwest 25-16, 25-12.
Lindsey Hazlitt, Betsy Kohmetscher, and Ashlee Huffman each had three aces serving for McCook.
Hazlitt had five kills and Kohmetscher had four.
Erica Clapp had 11 assists for the Bison.

Roughriders
The McCook Bison junior varsity team won its match against Southwest 25-16, 26-24, 25-16.
Hazlitt and Jessica Fritsch each had four aces to lead McCook.
Fritsch had eight kills and Hazlitt had seven for the Bison.
Clapp had 17 assists and Alyssa Cook had 12 assists.
The sophmore team is 5-4 with a final match on Tuesday at Chase County.
The Bison JV is 8-5 and ends the season at Chase County on Tuesday.

sweep Hitchcock County
TRENTON -- The Cambridge volleyball team swept three games from Hitchcock County Tuesday night at Trenton.
The Trojans won 25-22, 25-12, 25-17.
No other details were available.
Chase County drops Hershey
HERSHEY -- Chase County got the better of Hershey in five sets on Tuesday.
The two teams met Saturday at the South Platte Valley Tournament in Grant, a tournament Chase County won.
Chase County fell in the first set 25-17 to Hershey, only to win the second by the same score, 25-17.
The third set saw Hershey win 25-19, taking a two set to one lead.
Chase County would win the fourth set, 25-18, to even the match at 2-2.
The final set went to Chase County also, 18-16, giving the Longhorns a second win over Hershey in the past four days, three sets to two.
Chase County hosts McCook next Tuesday.
Medicine Valley wins in four sets over Elwood
CURTIS -- Medicine Valley held off Elwood for a 23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 win in Curtis.
Jessica Jorgensen and Christine Fisher each had three aces for Medicine Valley.
Olivia Klein led the team with eight assists and Courtney Fritsche chipped in two assists.
Jorgensen led Medicine Valley with seven kills. Fisher added five kills. Tara Wilkenson and Fritsche added four kills each.
Jorgensen also had six blocks.
"The girls played a tough game. We still struggled with communicating a little," said coach Emily Lashley.
Medicine Valley plays Wauneta-Paliasade on Thursday.
Wauneta-Palisade 2-0 at Dundy County triangular
BENKLEMAN -- Wauneta-Palisade was 2-0 Tuesday at the Dundy County triangular, picking up wins over the Dundy County and Grant. Dundy County defeated Grant to go 1-1.
The Broncos defeated Dundy County 23-25, 25-15, 25-16.
Wauneta-Palisade then topped Grant 25-16, 23-25, 25-18 to move to 2-0 on the day.
Dundy County bounced back with a win over Grant 23-25, 25-20, 25-18.
Grant will be at the Cozad tournament on Saturday, playing Southwest in the first round.
Dundy County will be at Southwest next Tuesday for a triangular.
Wauneta-Palisade will be at the GPAC tournament on Tuesday. The Broncos have a first round bye, and will play the winner of the Maywood-Hayes Center match.
Southern Valley falls to Minden, Hastings A.C.
OXFORD -- The Southern Valley volleyball team lost two matches at home on Tuesday.
The Eagles opened play with a two set loss to Hastings Adams Central 25-23, 25-12.
Megan Becker had four kills and Janae Perkins three four Southern Valley.
Alyssa Steele led the Eagles with 10 assists.
Southern Valley then dropped a three set match to Minden, 25-21, 14-25, 12-25.
Perkins and Becker had seven kills a piece for the Eagles. Steele had 16 assists in the loss.
Southern Valley is now 0-18 and will host a the Southern Valley Invite on Saturday.
Jennings, Cheylin end
seasons at 1A Regionals
REXFORD, Kan. -- The Jennings and Cheylin volleyball teams wrapped up their seasons with losses at the 1A regional tournament in Rexford.
Jennings lost to Grinnell 25-19, 25-15.
Cheylin lost to Wheatland (KS) 25-11, 25-6.
