Elizabeth 'Betty' Deffer Krous

INDIANOLA -- Elizabeth "Betty" Deffer Krous, 87, of Indianola died Thursday (Oct. 7, 2004) at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln.
She was born Nov. 25, 1916 in Indianola to Frank and Hazel (Phillips) Deffer.
She graduated valedictorian from Indianola High School in 1933, from McCook Junior College in 1935 and attended classes at the University of Nebraska.
She taught school in Indianola and Havana before working as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force at Lowry Air Field in Denver, Colo., during World War II. Following the war, she returned to Indianola and worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation until 1954.
On March 27, 1954, she married Elwyn S. Krous at Indianola.
Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 58-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her son, Philip Anthony; three sisters, Carol Kjoller Waddell, Catherine Deffer and Marcella; and one brother, Franklin.
Survivors include her husband Elwyn; two sons, Dr. Henry F. Krous of San Diego, Calif., and Kenneth E. Krous, Tulare, Calif.; one brother, General Philip A. Deffer, USA (ret) of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are Monday at 2 p.m., at the Indianola United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Rowe officiating. Interment will be in the Indianola Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name to the scholarship fund at McCook Community College or a charity of choice.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m., at the Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
