OBERLIN -- Elva E. Shaughnessy, 84, died Friday (Oct. 1, 2004) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

She was born April 6, 1920, to Charles and Hulda (Johnson) Duff in Bertrand. She was raised in Bertrand and attended school there.

On July 25, 1949, she married Harrold Shaughnessy in Bertrand. The couple moved to Oberlin in January of 1964. She was a sales clerk and office manager at Duckwalls in Oberlin.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Cosmopolitan Club and several card clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Shaughnessy on June 17, 1975; brothers, Charles, Curtis and Carol Duff; sister, Erma Duff; and son-in-law, James Blazek.

Survivors include two sons, Michael and wife, Edith Shaughnessy of McPherson and Patrick Shaughnessy and special friend, William Heaivilin of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Jean and husband, Bernie Pfiefer of Wichita, Catherine and husband, Steve Fosselman of Grand Island and Teresa Shaughnessy of Oberlin; two grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Wednesday from 8 a.m., until services time at the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to the United Methodist Women, Swimming Pool Fund or to the donor's choice.
