Maywood volleyball falls to Wheatland

CURTIS -- The Wheatland volleyball team defeated Medicine Valley in four sets in Thursday volleyball action.

Wheatland took the first two sets from Medicine Valley 25-16, 25-14.

The Raiders won the third set 25-13, then dropped the final set 25-19 to Wheatland.

Jessica Jorgensen led Medicine Valley's serve attack with four aces. Tara Wilkenson added three and Christine Fisher two for the Raiders.

"The girls played great. They started off with a quick momentum and had very good serving to start out the night," said Medicine Valley coach Emily Lashley.

Lacy Bryant had 12 kills for Medicine Valley. Jorgensen added five, Fisher four and Wilkinson three. Kesha Heinzle had 22 assists in the loss to Wheatland.

"The girls played four tough games, winning the third one. I was very impressed with the heart and teamwork that the girls played with," said Lashley.

Wheatland improved to 7-7 on the season. They will compete in the Wallace tournament tonight and tomorrow.

Medicine Valley fell to 3-8. They will be at the Brady tournament tonight.

0-2 in Hastings

HASTINGS -- Southern Valley fell to 0-13 on the season with losses to Sandy Creek and Silver Lake on Thursday in the Hastings St. Cecilia tournament.

Southern Valley dropped its match to Sandy Creek in two sets; 25-15, 27-25.

Jenae Perkins and Megan Becker had five kills each for the Eagles. Alyssa Steele had eight assists in the loss.

Becker and Ashley Strickland had two serving aces each.

Southern Valley then lost to Silver Lake 10-25, 25-23, 15-25.

Perkins had 12 kills in the Silver Lake match. Becker added seven. Perkins also had six aces.

Alyssa Steele had 11 assists to lead Southern Valley in the loss to Silver Lake.

Southern Valley will be in triangular action in Cambridge tonight.

Hayes Center downs

Hitchcock County

TRENTON -- The Hayes Center volleball team took three straight sets from Hitchcock County on Thursday.

The Cardinals defeated the Falcons 26-24, 25-13, 25-14.

Mary Gohl had 13 points on 18 of 18 serving for Hayes Center. She had three aces. Lichelle Large added 10 points on 12 of 14 serving with three aces.

Terra Bishop led the Cardinals with 14 kills. Gohl added 13 and Jenny Hamilton five.

Dove Messersmith had 18 assists and Kayla Bauer 13 for Hayes Center.

"The girls played much more consistently (Thursday)," said Hayes Center coach Marian Richards.

"Hopefully we have all the bugs worked out and are ready to come on strong the rest of the season."

Hayes Center, now 6-8, will play Wallace on Oct. 8.

Hitchcock County falls to 3-12 and will be at the Dundy County triangular tonight.

Southwest volleyball

sweeps Alma, Overton

ALMA -- The Southwest volleyball team improved to 11-3 on the season with wins over Alma and Overton in Alma on Thursday.

Southwest dropped host Alma in two sets, winning 25-17, 25-21.

Brittany McConville had 19 assists to lead Southwest.

Savannah Noyes had 13 kills against Alma. Cayla Skaritka and Chelsea Morgan added three kills each.

The Roughriders then topped Overton 25-16, 21-25, 25-13.

Noyes had 16 kills in the win. Skaritka, Morgan, Lisa Lord and Chelsey Quigley added four kills each.

McConville had 29 assists for Southwest.

Southwest will be in Cambridge for a triangular tonight.

Dundy County

spikers win at home

BENKLEMAN -- The Dundy County volleyball team defeated Maywood 25-15, 25-12, 25-18 on Thursday.

Heather Morris had 17 points serving with four aces for Dundy County. Shelby Wilson added 15 points. Annette Case added 14 points and Vanessa Shill 12 points for the Tigers.

Emily Hudson had 10 kills to lead the team. Brooke Olson had nine kills.

Case had 33 assists on the night for the Tigers.

"The girls played well at home and showed some entusiasm during the game," said Tiger coach Bill Wilson. "Heather served well tonight and Emily had her best game of the year with 10 kills."

Dundy County, now 11-5, will be at the Hitchcock County triangular tonight.
