HAYES CENTER -- Lawrence William Walker, 89, died Saturday (Sept. 25, 2004) at his home in rural Hayes Center.
He was born July 11, 1915, in Maywood to Charlie and Mary Catherine (Teeters) Walker. He attended rural District 54.
On Aug. 16, 1936, he married Effie Laura Evans on the Evans family farm in Hayes County. To this union three children were born. They made their home on a farm east of Hayes Center for most of their 68 years of married life.
He was a member of Evergreen Union Church. He served on the school board, fair board and Farm Bureau Board. He was a 4-H Leader and sponsored several youth sneak trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mary Catherine; daughter-in-law, Linda Ann Rummel Walker; and great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Laura of Hayes Center; two sons, Charles H. Walker and wife, Sara Mae and Cletis L. Walker, all of McCook; daughter, Marjory L. and husband, Raymond Floyd of Cheyenne, Wyo.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Johnny Walker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
